Get paid when you browse the web - Presearch Review
This article will review Presearch, the decentralised search engine that pays users.
Presearch is a decentralised search engine created with blockchain technology that rewards users for every search.
Users are rewarded in PRE tokens.
Presearch is also privacy based and decentralised.
Decentralised means that there is no central power in control of the organisation.
community members (token holders) are the owners of the search engine.
Rewards
For every search, you get 0.1 PRE with a maximum of 30 paid searches allowed per day (subject to change).
You can withdraw your reward tokens after getting 1000 tokens.
In about 333 days (just under 1 year) you can make 1000 tokens.
Although you may only withdraw 1000 at a time.
So if you have 1200, you can withdraw 1000. Then you have to have a total of another 1000 (earn another 800) before you can withdraw the remaining 200.
At the moment PRE tokens are valued at ($0.1) which is the cryptocurrency market crash price.
The all-time high was $0.8 per token in Jan 2018 and in October 2021 PRE was worth $0.4 per token.
With better market conditions, and adoption the price may increase (not financial advice).
You can earn between $100-$800 dollars extra income a year depending on the price of the token.
You can earn further rewards through hosting nodes.
Privacy Based- Decentralised
The search engine is privacy based and so your personal information is not shared with anyone.
Data is processed through decentralised nodes.
Presearch is a community-driven search engine that is open source.
Members of the community can contribute to the source code.
Presearch is reportedly as good as other search engines and also better in that it has access to additional layers of data through community development with more additions set for the future.
Advertising – Staking
You can stake PRE tokens on keywords.
For example, you can stake PRE tokens on the word “decentralised Exchange” create an ad and link it to your URL just like Google Ads and Microsoft Ads.
The tokens are locked when stacked however, you can un-stake these tokens anytime and redeem them.
Unlike Pay per click (PPC) ads, you don’t spend any money on advertising, instead, you stake tokens (“commit”) which you can remove anytime.
In case many people stake on the same keyword, the person with the most tokens staked wins the ad.
Staking is the process of locking tokens in a smart contract for a period of time usually for rewards; in this case, free search engine advertising.
Staking is a useful mechanism, it can help to stabilise the price of a token because it takes coins out of circulation.
Nodes
Nodes are like servers that store data. They are computers that help to run and secure a network.
How to run a node:
You can host nodes to maintain and run the network (decentralised) to keep it secure.
You get paid in PRE to run nodes.
There is no limit on the number of Nodes you can run, and you can use any operating system that runs Docker.
It is also preferred that you use a computer that is running 24 hours a day.
You can use your home computer but it will use a lot of electricity, it can cost a lot to run it 24 /7. You can instead use a VPS which saves you on electricity but it may cost to rent it unless there is a free option or discount. See instructions on how to run a node here including tutorials for AWS.
Equipment
- Windows – Powershell, Command Line Putty for SSH client
- Mac – Terminal or any other console application
- Linux – Console or any other similar application
Setup Nodes Trough VPS
Set up a node on Amazon Web Services. If you don’t have an account create one.
- Create a new instance
- Select Ubuntu
- Start your instance, save your key
In the terminal, put in the following code:
ssh -i "yourPrivateKey.pem" ubuntu@ec2-18-221-247-250.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com
Next: Install Docker:
curl -fsSL https://get.docker.com -o get-docker.sh
sudo sh get-docker.sh
Set up auto updater:
sudo docker run -d --name presearch-auto-updater --restart=unless-stopped -v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock presearch/auto-updater --cleanup --interval 900 presearch-auto-updater presearch-node
Run command:
sudo docker pull presearch/node
sudo docker run -dt --name presearch-node --restart=unless-stopped -v presearch-node-storage:/app/node -e REGISTRATION_CODE=YourRegistrationCodeHere presearch/node
Check to see if the node is working (you should see PRE logo):
sudo docker logs -f presearch-node
sudo docker logs -f presearch-node
Other methods to set up Nodes:
- Run a node on Racknerd
- Run a node on Azure
- Run a node on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
- Run a node on Linux VPS
- Run a node on ThreeFold
You can use a decentralised container. Difficult to get from Presearch on the other hand it is decentralised.
Is Presearch worth using?
Pros
You get paid to browse, unlike Google, Yahoo, Bing and other search engines.
- They continue to develop their product with updates made in June 2022
- You can advertise for free to get your webpage at the top of searches to increase traffic by staking tokens and withdrawing anytime.
- Privacy based
Cons
- Can only withdraw 1000 at a time, will have to make more to withdraw after the first 1000
- Fees earned dropped from 0.25 per search to 0.1 per search and vary
- Expensive: costs money to withdraw on the Ethereum network which has high fees (proposing a solution: a layer 2 or migration)
- Can take around a year to reach 1000 tokens.
- Takes a long time to process withdrawals,( 8 applications are processed a day according to some customers.)
Referrals:
By referring someone you get 25 PRE tokens after the new referral has used the search engine for at least 30 days and has earned 50 PRE tokens.
